The works on paper in the exhibition Shifting Pulse use mark-making systems perpetuated by repetition and anomaly. Minimal fields of on/off pulses develop slowly over time.  Perceptual systems, math, textile structure and the mesh of communication are unseen subjects that mingle in these abstract spatial drawings -- the surfaces of which never quite settle down. They fluctuate and shift in formation as they balance and equivocate energy, stillness, shadow and light. The crossing lines of cut paper in Friction and On the tip of my tongue form a stable mesh of unsettling fragility. Communication, the urge to articulate, to connect can be like the fizzle of static or data, an inarticulate stutter on the tip of the tongue.
